At the time of the Civil War, the North and the South had very different lifestyles. The North was a rapidly industrializing nation, while the South was a conservative agricultural nation; this difference led to many of the conflicts between the North and the South. Since they created things in their own factories, Northerners often disliked cheap European imports which posed as a competition to them, while the South loved cheap European imports because of their affordability. On the other hand, while the South used slaves everyday to work their land, the North did not have much use for slavery, and eventually recognized it as evil and fought against it. In addition to this, the South tended to believe in a small federal government, while the North believed a strong federal government was necessary, which ultimately led to the Civil War.
