Andrew Jackson- President of the United States of America from 1829-1837. Was responsible for the Nullification Crisis, which was one of the first cases where a state threatened secession. Also showed strong support for the unionization of all American states.
Abraham Lincoln- President of the United States of America from 1861-1865. He was the first republican president America had ever had, a political party which the South was strongly opposed to.
Jefferson Davis- President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. He symbolized the South and what they were fighting for
Stephen Douglas- A strong supporter of the idea of popular sovereignty in the government. He was responsible for the Kansas-Nebraska Act which repealed the Missouri Compromise.
John Brown- A radical abolitionist who led multiple raids to free slaves, and kill slave owners. He was captured and hanged, but was remembered as a martyr by abolitionists in the North.
